Domain Name
Tips
Make it easy to guess
and memorable
Try to think of the domain name that your potential
customers would guess at, for example if your
company is called Everything Plastic then your
domain name could be www.everythingplastic.co.uk
- it might even be www.everything-plastic.co.uk.
Most people will try the first version and then
the latter. You could even get both - its really
not expensive and it could mean more business!
Make it easy to type
in
The spelling of your domain name might be obvious
to you but is it obvious to others? Example: you
have a www.one2one.com as a domain name but if
the spelling of this domain name was guessed someone
might use: www.onetoone.com or www.onetwoone.com
etc.
Trademarked Names
are a no go
Dont try to register Registered Trademark names
- there is an increasing number of large companies
that are standing up for their rights to have
their company name web address. It is unethical
and in the long term wont really help your business'
reputation.
.com, .co.uk, .net
The most popular and widely used suffixes are
.co.uk and .com but there are lots of others out
there (.biz, .info, .org etc) that are being used
more and more. If you've decided on a name that
is already in use try other suffixes. If you've
thought of a name that you're really positive
about why not buy up the various suffixes to protect
your brand image?
Notes
Domain names are not case sensitive. Domain names
can only use letters, numbers, and dashes. Spaces
and symbols are not allowed. |
