Copy Writing
Tips
Here are some tips
for when you fancy having a crack at it yourself:
- Make sure you have a complete understanding of what you are
writing about - knowledge is power.
- Know your product or service inside out
and be passionate about it. If you dont believe
in it why should anyone else?
- Who are you writing it for? Think about
your target audience and the language that
they would respond to best. Try to create
a customer profile - this will make writing
easier.
- Sell the benefits not the features. What's
in it for your customers?
- People scan read so draw attention to the
most important benefits.
- Read through what you have read. Try to
put yourself in your customers shoes, be objective.
- Dont waffle - each time you read it through
try to shorten sentences to their basic elements
without losing the meaning.
- For web site copy it is even more important
not to waffle. Break up text into short paragraphs
- a couple of sentences in each, people are
more likely to stay and read. If your web
site has large blocks of text people are likely
to not bother or print it off for later but
you want them to read now!
- Try not to use CAPITAL LETTERS
it is like shouting at soomeone. And ease
of the exclamations!!!! Both of these things
look unprofessional.
- Once you are satisfied ask others to read it to see what
their reaction is. Test it out and amend if necessary.
